Thanks to quarantine, I have been killing my Goodreads reading challenge. I am already at 31 books for the year and my goal is 35! I know a lot of people who have been reading a ton lately, and I love finding new books by seeing what other people enjoy, so here are a few of my recent reads.
The Scent Keeper: This starts with the story of a girl who lives on a deserted island with her father. He has a drawer full of scents and a magical scent machine that she is eager to know more about. (and that is only the first few chapters!) This book goes through Emmeline’s life as a child to adulthood. It was a fun, different book.
The Immortalists: If you knew the date of your death, how would you live your life? I LOVED this one. It is the story of four siblings who sneak out as children to visit a psychic after hearing she can tell you the day you will die. This book felt like it was a number of different stories in one since it chronicled each siblings life individually, while weaving them together at the same time.
Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family: This was a fun one since I was curious what really happened to cause the Sussex’s to leave their royal lives. It is written by two top royal reporters who were with the couple since they first met. I flew though this one.
Sober Curious: The older I get, the more I struggle with my relationship to alcohol. Before COVID, I basically stopped drinking. I no longer felt the need to drink every weekend (I had already stopped drinking during the week) instead choosing only special occasions to have a cocktail or wine. Well, all of that went down the drain since quarantine started and I feel like I have been drinking more than ever! Books about drinking interest me since it points out how addictive it is and why drinking is so mainstream in our society. I know when I drink I feel like crap (even with just one or two glasses of wine) and I don’t sleep well, yet I KEEP DRINKING. I am a work in progress with this one and I enjoy books on the topic.
If you have read any good books lately, be sure to message me on Instagram and we can also follow each other on Goodreads.
