Buy New Tyres: 6 Practical Tips From An Expert On How to Choose the Best Ones for Your Car
Choosing tyres can be confusing unless you’re in the motor trade. That’s why it is important to acquire some knowledge about them before you buy new ones. After having not one but two burst tyres earlier this year and experiencing all the inconvience that goes with that, I decided to research, question experts and apply their tips when buying tyres myself and I’ve compiled their advice and my experiences below.
Read on to discover the key things you should know before you replace your current set from choosing tyres to fit your specific needs to finding the best quality tyres to ensure longevity and more, this blog post covers it all!
1. Get the Right Size
Not all tyres will fit the wheels of your car even if you own a relatively common model. Check the tyre code on your current set of tyres since this will include key information on their diameter, sidewall width and so on. If you are not sure, then check in your car’s owner’s manual.
2. Order Tyres Online
You don’t have to take what the tyre centre happens to have in stock when you turn up. Reserve the ones you want online before having them fitted to be sure you are not compromising. You can buy new tyres for your car from DAT Tyres – you can book online in easy steps. Doing so only takes a few moments and you might even find a bargain.
3. Choose According to Your Driving Needs
Not all drivers need the same things from their tyres. Consider a winter set for colder months, especially if you live in a rural or exposed location where lower temperatures can lead to treacherous road conditions. If fuel economy is a big factor for you, then choose models of tyres that prioritise this in their design. Equally, look for performance tyres if road handling is your preference.
4. Consider Tread Patterns
Some tyres have tread that is designed to maximise grip in the wet and some offer less road resistance, ideal for long motorway drives. You will also find that tread is altered for less noisy tyres which decreases the amount of rumble they generate. Most good tyre brands offer different tread designs and will label their products accordingly
5. Buy New Tyres – Not Part-Worn Ones
Avoid second-hand and part-worn tyres. So long as they are street-legal it is perfectly possible to have them fitted to your car. The downside is that you will have no idea if they have other defects, nor how long they might last.
6. Spend More, If You Can
Push your budget to its maximum. Generally speaking, the more you spend when you buy new tyres, the more you save in the long run since better ones have a greater lifespan. This is especially so if you keep them pumped up.
