Need a fun learning activity? You got it, friend!
Inside this post, I’ll share exactly how you can use cheerios to set up an easy and FUN toddler math activity. Yes, really.
Ready for some easy fun? Let’s go!
So, I know this learning activity looks super easy to set up (and it is), but there’s SO much more going on here than just counting…
See, You and I have a problem.
As if taking care of our kids wasn’t enough, we also have to do all. the. things. like dishes, laundry, and feeding ourselves and the kids too (I mean, can you remember the last time YOU ate?!).
So, this activity isn’t just about counting…
It’s also about getting a little something done from our never-ending to-do list with a happy kiddo by our side. That way we feel less burnt out (one chore down!) AND our kids are happily learning how to count.
I mean, how good does that feel?!

But, how does this help you to do all. the. things.?
Well, the key is that this learning activity for toddlers can be set up anywhere.
Wherever YOU need to be to get something done is where you set this simple activity up.
This puts your toddler in proximity to YOU, so that you can easily get something done without your toddler melting down or begging for snacks.
Bonus: this activity lets your toddler snack while they learn. It’s basically your new bff.

- Cheerios
That’s it!
How to Set Up Cheerio Bubbles Counting Game
- Draw fish with a sharpie. Don’t worry, they don’t have to be cute (your toddler won’t care!)
- Write numbers inside the fish (I did 1-3 for my toddler, but you could do more numbers or addition problems for older kids)
- For young toddlers, draw the number of “bubbles” each fish needs so they know exactly how many cheerios to place down. Older kids may not need that visual guide.
- Let your child “match” the cheerios to the number of fish bubbles.
Tip: We outlined the fish in colors (#3 fish were blue, #2 fish green, #1 fish orange). To save time, you can skip this step BUT I find that the colors draw my child into the activity. And, it helped him to quickly identify the numbers (all the blue fish have 3 bubbles!).
Now, set this up in the kitchen, at the table, or on your coffee table so that you can get that quick chore done!
Then, watch the magic of how this tasty learning activity for toddlers will keep your child engaged so you can finally get a little something done.
One thing scratched off your to-do list with a happy toddler by your side.
Whew. I feel more accomplished already!
