When I first created Powerful Play Foundations, my goal was simple: provide accessible, on-demand professional development that sparks ongoing conversations throughout the year and helps deepen understanding. I aimed to offer high-quality training for teams on a budget and support them in mastering the power of play in early childhood.
After working with my beta teams for the past 6-8 months, it’s clear that Powerful Play Foundations is so much more than “just another PD.”
A few themes I keep hearing from my beta teams:
*Finally Philosophically Aligned: Even long-time “play-based” programs are saying their teams truly “get it” for the first time.
*Unified Team: From Master’s degrees to high school diplomas, teams are coming together with a shared vocabulary, vision, and purpose.
*More Passion: Teachers are engaged, enthused, and excited about their work. (One director even mentioned their team member who’s usually not interested in PD is SO engaged for these sessions!)
*Lightbulb Moments: Teams are seeing, discussing, and using play differently than before. And that means children are having play experiences that are richer and deeper than before too.
*PD Hours: There’s a minimum of 6 hours of PD time included in the course videos, but by using the Director’s Resources, one group is on target to get 20 hours certified by their state. (But more important than counting the time, they’ve made that time really count for their team!)
*Increased Professionalism: Teachers are more confident in their play-based approach and in themselves as professionals. (Or, as one teacher put it, “She makes me feel smart.”)
*Keeping the Peace: As an added bonus, challenging behaviors have dropped as children are becoming more engaged in the classroom environment.
